The history of the Escalade festival
It was during the night of 11 to 12 December 1602 that the Savoyards attempted to storm the city of Geneva. The story goes that a cook named "La Mère Royaume" threw her pot of soup on their heads. It is this act of patriotic heroism that we still commemorate today by making chocolate pots filled with marzipan vegetables.
Traditionally, before the pot is broken, the youngest and oldest tasters join hands over the top of the pot to break it together. At the same time, of course, the famous phrase "may the enemies of the republic perish" is uttered!
We're looking forward to showing you all our handmade pans filled with vegetables and homemade marzipan.
